Parents help in fight to keep RAPP and GetActiv8d alive!

kids get ready to try pro jumpingLottery funding for RAPP and GetActiv8d - the hugely successful free holiday activity schemes - is coming to an end and organisers are looking to the people who have enjoyed the schemes in the past for help.

East Hampshire District Council plans to set up a group of volunteers to help manage and raise funds for the scheme as their current source of revenue runs out.

Both the Rural Area Play Project, which provides games and toys for younger children, and GetActiv8d which offers sports and activities for eight to 16-year-olds, have been funded by the lottery. However, in December lottery funding ceases and both the schemes must now be funded and run in a different way.

Lisa Clements, RAPP Co-ordinator, said: "Once the lottery funding runs out we are going to have to find alternative sources of money. We would like interested parents to join a new group, called the Friends of RAPP and GetActiv8d, which will help search for new ways to fund the schemes and input into how they should run in the future."

"The two projects have become increasingly successful over the last four years and I hope that this new way of managing things will help build on that."

This summer has proved to be the most successful ever RAPP with 3,000 children taking part over the five week period, and GetActiv8d pulling in 630 eight to 16-year-olds.

The RAPP van visits locations around the district carrying toys and games and hosting arts and crafts sessions. GetActiv8d offers sports lessons in basketball, pro-jumping and street dance. Inset pic shows some of the kids waiting to have a shot at Pro-Jumping.

A meeting is to be held to assess interest in the group at the Horndean Colonial Bar, at 8pm on 18 November.
