Come and walk with us...
The Walking to Health scheme runs very successfully throughout East Hampshire and has enhanced the lives of many of its residents. Not only are they getting fitter and healthier; they are also making new friends and increasing their social circle. A lot of the groups go for walks and then stop for coffee and a chat afterwards. Some even have Christmas parties and other events.
The walks usually last for about an hour and are suitable for all abilities.
Everyone is welcome.
The idea of the scheme is that people with all types of different health conditions, can simply walk their way back to health. You don’t have to have a health condition to join
in either, you may simply want to walk with a group of friendly people, rather than walk alone. There are many benefits to walking – it makes you feel good, gives you more energy; reduces stress; helps you sleep better; keeps your heart strong; reduces blood pressure, and can help you to manage your weight.
This wonderful initiative is coordinated by EHDC in partnership with Natural England www.whi.org.uk and the British Heart Foundation, and is run by volunteers.
There are schemes running in Alton, Bordon (Alice Holt), East Meon/Clanfield, Headley, Liss, Liphook, Petersfield, and Rowlands Castle.
For more information or to receive a free leaflet please call Louise Christie, Active Lifestyle Co-ordinator at EHDC on 01730 234067.
We are also always looking for Volunteer Walk Leaders so if you are interested in becoming one, or starteing a walk in your area, please give Louise a call.
