Study into sport ....a great result for Grayshott

Sports clubs in Grayshott could soon be celebrating a great result once a study into new facilities and equipment is returned.

A team of specialists is examining the sporting and recreation facilities in Grayshott and the surrounding area to discover the best ways of improving it.

East Hampshire District Council has put £2,000 towards the £7,000 study which will be completed by the end of April.

Cllr Ferris Cowper, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: “Grayshott is a thriving community and deserves more recreation facilities than it has today. The purpose of this study is to identify that need and deliver better and up-dated facilities across the age groups and across all areas of activity.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to take one of the finest villages in Hampshire and make it even better.”

The comprehensive review of sport and recreation in Grayshott will look at existing provision, site issues and demand. It will seek out opportunities to promote healthy and active lifestyles through all age groups and find ways of improving sports provision in Grayshott, hand-in-hand with surrounding areas.

One big win would be the replacement or improvement of the current pavilion, which is nearing the end of its useful life.

Nick Chilton, chairman of Grayshott Sportsfield Committee said: “It is an old building which has been well-used but it is now in need of replacement. We are short of leisure and recreation provision in Grayshott so we need to find out what is needed and what is desired by the people here. We have to make sure that we get things that are going to be used.”
