Walk to Health in Alice Holt Forest
For those people looking to walk their way into a healthy 2009 there will be weekly Walks to Health at Health at Alice Holt Forest.
The walks will start on Tuesday 3rd February with different routes being walked throughout the year during the daytime and evenings until November.
During February and March walks will start in the morning at 10am from the Holt café.
From April until August walkers will be able to enjoy the forest during the evenings with walks starting at 6.30pm from the classroom in the forest.
When the light starts to fade, from September to November, walks will again take place in the mornings from 10am meeting at the café.
Walking to Health has been running at Alice Holt for three years but this is the first time that a weekly organised walk will take place there.
Councillor Mrs Jennifer Gray, Community and Healthy Lifestyles Portfolio Holder said: "The Walking to Health Scheme has met fantastic support throughout the district and it is wonderful to see that the Alice Holt walk has built upon the success of recent years to offer a walk on a weekly basis.
"By providing this activity during the daytime and evening, it will ensure that people are able to get active at a time that is convenient to them.
"I am urging everyone interested to attend and support this worthy local scheme and reap the benefits of an active lifestyle."
Kat Calver, Recreation Administration Officer at Alice Holt Forest, will be leading the Walks to Health and is excited about the walks being held on a weekly basis throughout the year.
She said: "By providing weekly walks throughout the year at Alice Holt Forest, we have a great opportunity to show people the beauty that the changing seasons have on the forest scenery.
"Getting out and being active in a natural environment such as Alice Holt Forest has been found to have very positive effects upon our mental and physical health and wellbeing."
The walks will take place every Tuesday starting at 10.00am from the Holt café in the forest in February, March, September, October and November and 6.30pm starting from the classroom in the Forest between April and August.
