Fred Dinenage to host East Hampshire District Sports Awards
Fred to present awards

TV presenter and newsreader Fred Dinenage will deliver good news to top local sports stars when he hosts the East Hampshire District Sports Awards next February.
The Meridian broadcaster has been working in television for 47 years and has fronted coverage of two Olympic Games during his illustrious career. He has presented regional news in the South for the last 25 years, including Day by Day, Coast to Coast and is still the Meridian Tonight anchorman.
Fred, who also famously fronted 'HOW?' - the longest-running children's programme on TV, will hand out the awards to the area’s best sports performers whose dedication and success has seen them nominated for an honour.
Organisers East Hampshire District Council is calling for residents to put forward the people they feel have contributed most to their team or sport.
The deadline for nominations is Monday 19 December 2011 and elected finalists will be invited to the awards evening on Wednesday 22 February 2012 at Penns Place, Petersfield.
Kirsty Cope, EHDC Community Project Worker, said: “Sport helps provide the bedrock of strong communities. It inspires dedication, teaches fair play and provides opportunity for fun and friendship.
“Thousands of people of all ages play in organised games with clubs and groups every week and they all know the men and women that give up their time and work hard for the benefit of their sport. We want to hear about these sports stars so they can be given the recognition they deserve.”
Fred will be handing out awards to elite performers as well as members of local sports clubs – the coaches, officials and volunteers who work behind the scenes to help athletes and clubs succeed.
Nominees are assessed by a judging panel and winners are required to meet criteria specific for each category. The winners of the district awards will be automatically nominated for the 2012 Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards.
