Nominate your local sporting hero
East Hampshire District Sports Awards 2012 have been set up as a fantastic way to recognise and reward the area’s best performers across a range of categories.
Awards will be handed to elite sports performers as well as members of the local sporting community including coaches, officials and volunteers who work behind the scenes to help athletes and clubs succeed.
Organisers East Hampshire District Council is calling for residents to nominate the people they feel have contributed most to their team or sport, as part of a range of special events to mark the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012.
Kirsty Cope, EHDC Community Project Worker, said: “Sport can provide the backbone for strong communities and motivates people in lots of ways. It inspires dedication and determination, creates passion and pride, and can instil discipline and fair play.
"It also provides great opportunities for fun and friendship, and often leads to great camaraderie and team spirit amongst competitors and spectators alike.
“As we move towards the games in London these awards will harness all these positive messages and celebrate everything that is good about sport.”
Nominees are assessed by a judging panel and winners are required to meet criteria specific for each category.
The deadline for nominations is Monday 19 December 2011 and elected finalists are invited to the awards evening on Thursday 16 February 2012 at Penns Place, Petersfield.
