The sessions, arranged by East Hampshire District Council, will run for two hours each week over an eight week period.

Participants can ride their own bikes, as long as they are roadworthy, but there may also be some bikes available for use on request.

Session at Alton will run on Tuesday mornings from 10am to noon, starting on 28 September while the sessions in Petersfield will operate on Saturdays from 10am noon, starting on 25 September.

Funding has been provided by Age UK in conjunction with the CTC - the National Cyclists Organisation which works in partnership with East Hampshire District Council - and will be run by professional cycle trainers at Alton Sports Centre and Junior School , Petersfield.

Mary Brooker, from the Alton area, who attended the cycle training programme in the spring, said: “I am really pleased I did the lessons at Alton as I didn't have the courage to cycle with my family last year and wouldn't have done it this year either without your help, so many thanks indeed. I now have to get myself a bike so I can join the others in our group on their rides.”

Sarah Walker, Cycling Development Officer for East Hants, is co-ordinating the courses as part of her Big Lottery funded role and would be delighted to answer any questions or to sign you up. Telephone 07775 595998 or email sarah.walker@ctc.org.uk
