Gettign and staying active in later life

Getting and staying active in later life

People over 55 are being encouraged to find out more about getting and staying active in later life.

The event, at the Liss Triangle Centre, is part of the UK's Older People's Day on October 1 and will include information about local groups, clubs and classes. There will also be a taster exercise class focusing on the nine exercises to promote better balance and a short walk, provided by the Liss Walking for Health group.

Free transport is available to anyone wishing to attend the event, which starts at 1.30pm, and there will be free teas, coffees and cakes available throughout the afternoon.

The scheme is a partnership project between Hampshire County Council's Out of Town Plus project and East Hampshire District Council's Active Lifestyles Team.

The UK's Older People's Day aims to support the UN's International Day of Older Persons. The day encourages local participation, celebrates the contribution of older people and helps to raise the profile of local initiatives that promote greater inclusion of older people. For more information visit www.direct.gov.uk/fulloflife.

For more information and to book free transport, please call Mandy Ganter at Hampshire County Council on 01962 832039.
