Skate Jam 2010 Clanfield

Amazing tricks, spectacular stunts and some big air is happening at this years Clanfield Skate Jam on Sunday 30 May 2010. Hundreds of skateboarders, BMX bikers and in-line skaters are expected to descend on the park to show off their skills.
Organised by local teenagers, Skate Jam 2010 will feature competitions for all three disciplines. There will also be food and equipment stalls, music and a fantastic family atmosphere.
Last year’s event, launched by 16-year-old inline skater Harry Phelan saw around 120 young people watching and 40 competitors take part.
This year’s event is being supported by East Hampshire District Council, Clanfield Parish Council and Hampshire County Council. The local fire and police services will also be playing a part in the Skate Jam, which runs from 10am to 7pm.
Horndean Technology School pupil Harry hopes that it will be much better than 2009.
“It’s an amazing atmosphere, it’s a really relaxed event full people enjoying themselves and just having a laugh,” he said. “There’s going to be a music system this year and there’s going to be a lot more going on so it should be much bigger and better. We’re hoping more people will come along and stay for the day.”
The competitions are open to all and can be entered on the day. Participants can just turn up, write their name down and do their tricks – the only rule is that everyone must wear a helmet.
Harry is hoping local businesses will also come forward to sponsor the event and donate prizes for the competitions. For more information contact him on 07941 850812. Or contact Mark Rose, EHDC Community Project Worker, 01730 23401.
