“In Stores to Outdoors”
In Stores to Outdoors

Millets, the outdoor retailing specialist, is working with Petersfield and East Hampshire Walking for Health Schemes to promote healthy walking in the East Hampshire area. The partnership begins this month and sees Millets promoting Walking for Health (WfH) in all of its 160 High Street stores. There are 46 such stores in the South East, including Millets in Petersfield. Millets customers will be offered details of local walking opportunities and details about the WfH scheme.
Adam Whitehouse, Area Manager for Millets says: “Millets shares with the Walking for Health Initiative the objective of encouraging more people to enjoy the outdoors. We are delighted to be associated with a scheme promoting the many benefits of the natural environment to the nation’s health and well-being.”
David Monger, the Secretary of WfH in Petersfield says: “This is a great step forward and we are very pleased to be teaming up with Millets to promote the benefits that walking and the outdoors can have on the health of the nation. Walking is a fun, social activity which reduces stress and has a whole host of health benefits.”
“WfH is free, can be done anywhere and is very safe, in fact Dr William Bird, founder of the scheme, famously said that it’s safer to go out walking than to remain sitting on your sofa. Natural England says that people who do more physical activity have more energy and feel more motivated.
Physical activity, such as walking, can cut the risk of health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, bowel cancer, breast cancer and depression.
“Being out walking in a group will also help you discover new places to enjoy and it will help you make new friends. Natural England’s Walking for Health (WfH) Scheme supports led health walks nationwide. The schemes enable over 38,000 people every week to enjoy local natural spaces and benefit their health by taking part in the 2,500 health walks led by trained walk leaders, the largest national body promoting and setting the standards for led health walks,”
