Funding, Grants & Bursaries

Funding Available from East Hampshire District Council

  • Community Project Fund (Maximum of £1,000) for one off projects or equipment.

  • Revenue Funding (Maximum of £1,000) for organistions running costs, on-going projects, and annual events.

East Hampshire District Council welcomes applications from sports clubs and groups for grants and a Community Project Worker can give guidance on how to make an application and identify other funding. Below are a range of funding streams available from the Council.

Funding Available from Sport Hampshire and IOW

Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme Hampshire County Council, in partnership with Southampton City Council provides support services to help Hampshire’s most talented athletes reach world class podiums. Support is based on performance levels and can include:

Monetary grants up to £500
Free access to participating leisure centres
Fast track physiotherapy care
Free bus travel cards from Stagecoach, Bluestar and First Group
Annual sport science conference at Southampton Solent University
Advice to schools on mentoring support

The scheme is open to:
Hampshire residents including the 13 local borough and district councils together with Southampton City Council. (Please note that Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight are not part of this scheme).

Athletes aged over 11 years.
Athletes competing in HTAS supported sports.
Athletes ranked in the top 15 in the country.

The deadline for applications is 14 October 2011.

Coach, Officials and Volunteers Scholarship - The Coach, Official and Volunteer Scholarship Scheme aims to increase the quantity and quality coaches, officials and volunteers available to support community sport in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The scheme will consider applications from candidates who wish to:-

  • undetake Level 2 & 3 Scholarships (Lead and Head Coaches)
  • undertake Minimum Standards for Deployment courses for coaches e.g. Safeguarding, Equity in Your Coaching, Coaching Disabled Performers and First Aid etc
  • undertake officiating courses

All applicants will have to register on www.coachinghampshireiow.co.uk

When are scholarships awarded? - Application forms are accepted throughout the year, but awards are made quarterly in June, September, December and March.

The awards panel will meet no later than 7-days after after the application deadline. Successful applicants will be notified of their award no less than 14-days after the application deadline.

Sports Match

The Sport England Sportsmatch programme increases investment in community sport by matching new sponsorship money pound for pound. They can match sponsorship which has been given to an eligible sports body by a company, trust, charity, or private individual to fund projects that promote new participation at grassroots level. Small Grants Scheme Sport England have set up a small grants programme to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.  The grant  is open to any bona fide not-for-profit club or association, statutory body or educational establishment. Iconic Facilities Fund Sport England's Iconic Facilities fund draws on the inspirational pull of London 2012 to create local beacons for grassroots sport. They are investing £30m over the next three years in innovative, large-scale, multi-sport facilities' projects that are regionally significant for at least two sports and can demonstrate long-term financial viability. Applications must be submitted by an organisation in England entitled to receive public funding such as sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities and education establishments.

BBC Children in Need – General Grants This grant programme is open to organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people who are 18 years old and under.Your organisation and project must be based in the UK and you need to be a registered charity or other not-for-profit organisation.There are four general grant deadlines each year: 15 January, 15 April, 15 July, 15 October. Regional Community Loan Funds Provide loan finance to not-for-profit community organisations.As well as financial support LIF can also provide technical assistance through the organisation ProHelp. This is a national network of architects, accountants, solicitors, public relations and marketing specialists, IT consultants and many others all of whom can provide professional and strategic support free of charge to voluntary and community groups in their local area. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation – Grassroots Grants Grassroots Grants is a grant scheme funded by the Government Office for the Third Sector and run locally by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation.The scheme is intended to give small voluntary groups improved access to local funding and more capacity to respond to local issues and needs. There is a total of nearly £2.2 million to award to groups across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton during the scheme which runs from July 2008-March 2011.
